With the Kavanaugh hearings, they destroyed any good will or political capital they may have had to raise political/moral/ethical/professional concerns (legitimate or otherwise). Biden does not want this debate to happen, but I don't think he can withdraw given everything that's happening. I get the impression that the MSM is trying to protect him by baiting GEOTUS into withdrawing. In the past few days, they have unilaterally changed the rules, scrapping any foreign policy questions (this was billed as the foreign policy debate), introducing the mute button, etc., etc. I think the goal is to piss him off into angrily refusing to show, so Biden won't have to debate but can still claim victory.
