I don't think recycling plastic bags and banning plastic straws would have helped the people living in the area of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. - if they had plastic to recyle. The Titanic has been at the bottom of the ocean for over a century and it's mostly recycled, gone back to nature. Thousands of years ago people were dealing with soil erosion and climate change - the exact same crap we are dealing with today. When they faced a crisis, their skill set improved. Unlike today.
