The difference between Germany (or UK) and the Czech republic is striking. I often hike in the border mountains. There are no enforced borders, but just walking beyond border stone I break several Germany laws. Knife laws, gun laws, god forbid if we are discussing Mohamed :)
Well, it might have been different. Hungary was an official German ally and Yugoslavia was complicated with the Serbo-Croatian animosities (which I do not understand much). The west part of Czechoslovakia (the current Czech Republic) was occupied by Germany but we were not German allies, we were enemies - with significant resistance at home, a significant presence on Eastern and Western fronts (Battle of Britain), and the exile government in London organizing military operations against Germany, including the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, one of the most prominent Nazis. Therefore Germans hated us much and the terror was immense (especially after the Heydrich assassination).
One thing is the law, the other thing is the society itself. There is simply no one tu sue you for such things here. People are talking freely. The difference between Czechs and Germans is very striking. While Czechs speak openly over a beer, most Germans are afraid to speak, even in a Czech pub. Czech people have a great ability to half-ass, ignore or circumvent stupid rules and laws, it is a part of our culture and goes back to Austria-Hungary (for insight, read Good Soldier Svejk). We also have great dissent against the EU, especially various stupid laws (like this) and most importantly the muslim immigration.
