And this isn't just theory. I've seen it first hand as Oregon has incrementally raised minimum wage annually with the end target of $15/hr. People making above minimum don't get a wage hike.
I have a family member working in Retail that worked their way up to a supervisor position. Wages in Retail suck in general, so the raise from associate to supervisor wasn't that great. Now the differential is almost wiped out.
Likewise for the cost of goods. There are a few staple items I buy every week. Every time one of the minimum wage increases took effect, the prices of those staple goods rose proportionally.
Same economic ignorance strikes with bond measures. "I don't own property, so I won't be affected by increased property taxes. I'm going to vote for this expensive bond measure." Then they wonder why their rent went up.
