We applied Benford's law wrong. Benford's law requires that the variable being observed be independent. Because each county (or what-not) basically has a set number of votes to be won, Biden's votes are basically that number minus what Trump got. Therefore, there is a dependency between those 2 number sets that changes the probability distribution of the numeric digits that Benford's law uses.
I wonder though if Benford's law couldn't be used on the total votes cast to indicate fraud. The votes for Jo Jorgensen can probably be treated as independent as well. I think there was enough variance in his votes to raise the alarm, but I'm not an expert here.
