All new college graduates are pretty useless in software development, even Indian ones. Bright eyed and bushy tailed and willing to work hard. A lot of the entry level positions / work where useless software developers become competent has been outsourced. So in times of economic stress no one hires the new graduates born in the US. All the work goes to the H1B shops or overseas.

Every time I have looked for a job over the last 20 years, I have not seen any positions that did not require at least 2 years of experience.
