I am not American dear Lara and I live pretty near to italy (actually a few km). While my family still lives there. So I can judge very well the italians being myself one.
Fact is: Mussolini started wars, for no reason to expand "his empire" sending for his crazyness many italians in a suicide war against Ethiopia and hoping Hitler to save his culo.
He fought against the allies and italy was saved by America. Majority of italians did not like Mussolini and still don't. And his stupid socialist Politics gave space to communism. And harm italy to this day. Sure free school is god. But having high taxes bad obligatory healthcare, free hospitals for old people and so on is what the democrats strive for. I hoped I could have showed it to you with my questions but it seems it didn't work.
I am very aware of what Mussolini did and No! he just could have done the same thing like Estonia and be save if he didn't want to "stand against him and have tanks and troops raiding, raping, robbing, murdering, destroying Italy on day one". He supported and fight along site of the Nazi Germany and had the same ideology while not as crazy as Hitler but still crazy enough to do the stupiest thing and establish a socialist shithole italy that doesn't work properly to this day.

I as a Sicilian who my family fleet from say this:
Italians are not that smart. They do not pay taxes and can't do politics while being left and full of socialism, which doesn't work.
What they need is Jesus and Patriotism. Not letting everyone in the country but help fellow especially fellow Christians.
But they are marked by what Mussolini did and think right is sinister. Same as the German think they have historic guilt but not as bad as Germans
