Just watched an old episode of The Good Fight.
Used to not mind the show The Good Wife. Remained pretty politically neutral I felt. Probably had a lefty social bend but didn't overtly rub shit in your face in the most part.
The sequel... The Good Fight... Premiered February 2017 so was Central Trump mania.
Episode 6 was about the process of implementing social media terms of service to combat hate speech and had a parody of Milo Yiannopuolos as the main 'bad guy'.
The hilarity I found was in how they played off like they treated the issue fairly. The 'Alt Right' was a major discussion point and all examples of anonymous internet abuse were all white men saying they want to r4pe people... An obvious exaggeration of the discussions online.
Lip service was paid to left wing crazies but the focus was that the right are obviously the majority. When we all know that mentals exist on the internet on both sides, but the reason the left views it as so far skewed is because their offense sensitivity is off the charts. Someone telling a lefty their ideas might not be correct is akin to r4pe threats.
But the ultimate hilarity was the finale....
During the episode the parody "Milo Yiannopuolos" was banned. And at the end of the episode he was reinstated and told that he was "what they had to tolerate" for free speech to exist. Once they ignored him he was upset and overcome because all he wanted was attention. The left had implemented tolerance and had won the moral fight.
But in reality... The actual Milo was banned from twitter in July 2016 (9 months before the show aired) and eventually also banned from Facebook and as of this day is a non person due to left wing censorship.
It's hilarious to think of left wing people watching this episode and feeling a sense of moral superiority at it's conclusion... When in reality people like them ended up just fucking 1984ing this gay Jewish guy in the name of progress.
Gotta laugh in this life. Or you'd cry.
I'm conservative.
37 year old professional, wife, kids.
I grew up leaning left (I felt).
I feel like the world has moved so strongly to the left that a position that I felt historically was centre left is now considered far right.
I try to talk to left (really left) leaning people to discuss the world. Interested in potentially being argued one way or the other.
Find that left leaning people / progressives these days have nothing to argue. They just go nuts and say I'm right and you are wrong.
You can logically argue them into a corner and then they just reset and state their original positions.
They have no interest in arguing the core of the issue.
We leave as friends... They don't seem to hate me at the end of it all (mostly)... But I hate them a little more every time. Because they won't even discuss things in a way that doesn't assume their positions are right from the start.
No real point to my post. Other than it gets frustrating.
Anyone else feel this way?
