Generations follow each other like seasons Going from a need for individuality that gradually increases till the need to trust our institutions again and a need for community. It’s not random. We quote as follows: “History is seasonal, and winter is coming. Like nature's winter, the saecular winter can come early or late. A Fourth Turning can be long and difficult, brief but severe, or (perhaps) mild.
Howe and Strauss observe that American history shows a new era, or “turning” about every 20 years. In simplest terms, the “First Turning” is an upbeat era of strengthening institutions. The “Second Turning” is an awakening, a passionate era of spiritual upheaval, when the old order comes under attack. The “Third Turning” is an unraveling — a time when individualism is strengthened and institutions are weakened. The “Fourth Turning” is a crisis, a decisive era of secular upheaval — the old order is toppled and a new one put in its place. The next Fourth Turning is due to begin shortly after the new millennium, midway through the Oh-Oh decade. Around the year 2005, a sudden spark will catalyze a Crisis mood. Remnants of the old social order will disintegrate. Political and economic trust will implode. Real hardship will beset the land, with severe distress that could involve questions of class, race, nation, and empire. . .The very survival of the nation will feel at stake. Sometime before the year 2025, America will pass through a great gate in history, commensurate with the American Revolution, Civil War, and twin emergencies of the Great Depression and World War II.
The risk of catastrophe will be very high. The nation could erupt into insurrection or civil violence, crack up geographically, or succumb to authoritarian rule. If there is a war, it is likely to be one of maximum risk and effort — in other words, a total war. Every Fourth Turning has registered an upward ratchet in the technology of destruction, and in mankind’s willingness to use it.” Howe and Strauss caution that Americans can be expected to encounter personal and public choices that are equal to the harshest ever faced by prior generations. “And it will require us to admit that our faith in linear progress has often amounted to a Faustian bargain with our children. Faust always ups the ante, and every bet is double or nothing. Through much of the Third Turning, we have managed to postpone the reckoning. But history warns that we can’t defer it beyond the next bend in time.”

I am being banned by google for commenting on a comment that attacked Trumps weight My comment was: “Ad hominem from your biased corrupt news media is what you just parroted like a good little brainwashed voter” I am very upset right now, I had to post it here because I hate having my freedom of speech impeded
something tells me that no matter what position trump takes The Democrats will yell trump bad The media too Did you know, that a proper democracy is supposed to give unbiased objective news sources. New Corp owns most of the news media corporations. This is called media consolidation: the process in which fewer organizations control mass media. This posses a threat to democracy. 2/3 of US dailies have disappeared since 1973 and 3/4 of US cities only have one newspaper. On top of that 1/3 of locally opened television stations have vanished. This is since the 1996 Telecommunications act which expanded the proportion of radio and television stations a single company could own in a given media market. A free responsible government cannot exist without and informed citizen. Democracy depends on the vibrant exchange of ideas; on information presented in coherent, meaningful ways; on independent thought which is not tailored for commercial advantage. Consolidation of ownership and power in the media removes these vital elements from the marketplace. Instead of a town square where ideas flow freely, the news business becomes more like a shopping mall dominated by a small number of megastores. This thwarts the public’s interest in robust, well-informed discussion of the critical issues of our times. Increasingly the same company that provides consumer access to the Internet also provide access to television; that is, the ISP is also the cable company. As the proposed joint venture between Comcast and NBC Universal demonstrates, this convergence will place control of three central elements of the media market into the hands of a small number of corporate entities: distribution of television programming by cable; access to the Internet; and content production. So when you tell me your opinions against Trump, I’m sorry, but to me it’s just a symptom of this media consolidation which is brainwashing people and tearing the United States of America’s appart at it’s seams. Never forget to always double check any information you see before accepting it as fact. Sources: huffpost.com/entry/media-consolidation-bad-f_b_640694 rochester.indymedia.org/node/1543
