That would have been untenable for American slaves...

1. there was no record keeping of what nation the slaves came from, only the port of departure.

2. slaves were stripped of their language and traditions so they would have been unable to find their way to their nation anyway if brought back

3. the cost to make a transatlantic trip to bring freed humans back would have been unsustainable for millions of the former slaves

Also they were no longer Africans of any nation at that point. There was 50 some years between the cessation of importing slaves and the freeing of them.

Especially considering humans were cross bread to garner different bodies (like dogs) any resemblance to an original culture was purposefully eroded as the slave masters did not want them to have a cultural identity.
