People forget that Nazism was heavily rooted in Marxism. By the time the fascists came around it had become clear that as western industrial capitalism progressed, and the middle class became more well off, people were less likely to be disaffected and prone to a violent revolution. The opposite of what Marx had predicted
The Marxists had failed in the industrial west and therefore turned to the ‘clean slate’ of less developed societies (Russia) to realize the utopian dream of a dictatorship of the proletariat. Meanwhile the leftists in the wealthier capitalist societies had not given up the Marxist ideology, but upon realizing it failure, sought to reform it into something else.
Nazism/fascism was just Marxism with race struggle instead of class struggle as it’s intellectual underpinnings(if you want to call it that)
That’s why they hated each other. Neither thought the other was ‘true’ socialism. Hitler was no free market capitalist
