No, we are not ‘falling like Rome’. Historians throughout the ages have always sought parallels, and when they find a superficial similarity they say ‘see we are like Rome’ but generally it’s a meme used by the UN-educated.
Though the founding fathers were educated in Roman history, and some can say that Rome was the template for the newly formed republic, the founding fathers used models lessons from all different eras ( i.e the Dutch Republic ) that were specifically seeking to learn from the lessons of Rome and avoid the pitfalls that lead to the downfall of the Roman Republic and the subsequent establishment of an imperial monarchy.
The specific threats to the current USA, as a constitutional republic, are rooted in the judicial branch (I.e. FISA) a move to more direct democracy(17th amendment, illegal immigration),foreign influence and the money system (the Fed and the lack of control of the currency by the sovereign), and the subsequent corruption of foundational institutions (education, media etc) that spring as a result
Perhaps the billionaire tech giants could be an analogue for the generals such a Marius and Sulla and the threat of ‘socialism’ could be an analog for the Graccian land reforms; but the civil wars that brought on by social-economic distortions of the slave economy were never resolved through abolition as they were here. Instead they were repressed and then eventually sublimated in the form of Christianity, which instituted a new morality on western civilization.
But to say that we are falling in the same way as Rome is incorrect, because it is not entirely clear we are falling. Rather, perhaps this is just the way the system resolves itself, (as it was designed). I would say, though, that if we were to fall , it will be in a completely different way
