There's info out there, just not much. It's an airborne virus. Not sure how long the virus can live on a surface. The reproductive value (R0)of a virus is how many people a given infected person can in turn infect. Spanish flu was estimated at an R0 of about 1.4. This virus was given a 2.6--quite high. Now I'm reading that new estimates for the coronavirus are 3.3-5.4. Symptoms are typically like the flu--coughing, sneezing, head cold, fever, muscle aches. The big issue is a secondary pneumonia--that's what seems to be killing people, of all ages, not just elderly. But some people are asymptomatic and are still carriers and spreading it around. Mortality seems to be fairly low at this point, but estimates are up to 10%. Morbidity (how many people get sick) is very high (given the R0 number) and it spreads easily. Since it's a virus, there is really little treatment beyond supportive care--antibiotics only work against a bacteria, not against a virus. I saw a comment on Twitter that HIV drugs were being used--makes sense, as these are powerful anti-virals. I don't know how effective they are. Prevention--go out NOW and buy N-95 masks, disposable gloves, antibacterial wipes to have on hand. The masks are in short supply on Amazon, and those that are there are way over prices (ie hundreds of dollars for a box of 80). So don't bother w/ Amazon. Go to Home Depot, Lowes, Tractor Supply and look for them. Do it before CDC/WHO declares a global crisis and everyone panicks. Wash hands, use your own pen for signing credit card receipts, wipe down surfaces, wash hands, wash hands-can't say that one enough.
Masks are already getting hard to get. You should look for N-95 masks. Forget about Amazon--the few that are available are hugely marked up in price (from the normal price of about $2/mask to $5+ each now). Look in Home Depot, Lowes, Tractor Supply, etc. Also get disposable gloves (Walmart) and antibacterial wipes. Stock up on food, OTC meds, etc. From everything I've been reading, this could be a devastating pandemic. I sure hope it just fizzles out, but, it may hit hard in other countries too.
The first cases apparently appeared in early December. The gov't arrested 8 people who tried to speak out on social media, incl. a doctor who stated that this could be devastating. The gov't did nothing/said nothing for weeks. Finally, at the END of December, the gov't came out with it. By then probably millions infected all over. At this point, the mortality rate looks to be pretty low. Morbidity (rate of illness) is very high. This guy did point out that people were walking around Wuhan without masks up until a few days ago, apparently not taking it seriously until the gov't required everyone to wear a mask. Now the Chinese military has moved in to "manage" the hospital (ie, prevent anyone from rioting/causing civil disorder, I'm sure). As far as long lines at the hospital--that's a huge understatement. One vid I saw showed people literally wall to wall in the hospital corridor, demanding answers and care. People are turned away and told to go home, as stated in this vid. And the gov't is showing that they do not care. I hope they are bringing food in for people, as there is none in stores/markets. Just heard from a friend who has online students in China. One confirmed that yes, there are dead bodies in the streets in Wuhan b/c the doctors don't have time to deal with them.
Straight from a Chinese nurse in Wuhan: https://www.rightjournalism.com/communist-cover-up-nurse-treating-coronavirus-in-china-claims-90000-people-are-infected-video/ Another poster on TD.W mentioned an epidemiologist on Twitter who is very alarmed at how this virus is spreading and how potentially dangerous it is. No fear-mongering from him, but good info. https://twitter.com/DrEricDing In the meantime, go out and buy N-95 masks (go to Home Depot or similar, don't bother w/ Amazon b/c they are either sold out or ridiculously expensive), disposable gloves, antibacterial wipes to have on hand. Stock up on canned goods, paper supplies, OTC meds. What worries me as much as the virus is the quarantine--the people in Wuhan have no food or supplies, and they are being turned away from the hospital and told to go home. Will the chinese government bring them supplies? There are 12 cities so far in China under quarantine. Now the chinese military has been brought into Wuhan to "manage" the hospital, but probably more to make sure people don't leave. It makes me think of "I Am Legend". If cities in the US are quarantined, will you have what you need to make it for a couple months, until this burns itself out?
I agree. I used to be just to the left of center. No more. I'm about as far right as you can get now. No dummocrap will ever get my vote (unless it's in a primary, voting for whichever candidate I think is least likely to win)
Word. When I went through 3 mos of chemo one winter, I did 3 things--washed hands as soon as I came in the door from being in town; used antibacterial wipes on grocery cart handles (well before it was a thing), and used my own pen for signing receipts at stores. I didn't get sick w/ anything else during those 3 mos.
My parents put me through college, and I did the same for my son. He got a partial scholarship, worked hard and graduated (in 4 years) with a degree which got him a good job, as did I. My spouse did a work/study through college, graduated with no loans to pay off. I agree w/ this dad--if Warren pushes this nonsense, I want back my hard-earned money that I saved (for 18 years!) so that my son could graduate with no debt.
I don't remember the last time I watched a movie in a theatre. It's too expensive anyway. I don't have tv--cable is useless and expensive. ($150/mo x 12 = $1800 in my pocket). Don't have Netflix or Amazon streaming. We watch occasional dvds from the library--that works well for us. So much more to life than watching tv.
Yes, you're right--3 of the bills passed yesterday. Bongino slammed Gov. Coonhound for his tweet about "listening to Virginians", since he is not listening to the 22K (200K?) 2A supporters who showed up. Hang in there, patriot. If nothing else, we are praying for you. Virginia used to be my home, too.
I like this one. Although perhaps not quite as portable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4s4bJCEO5I
I think the good thing that came out of the (frankly overkill) warnings about false flags, busloads of anti-fa, etc etc is that everyone was on their best behavior, determined to keep things calm and rational, and it doesn't look like ANYONE stayed home, which was probably the goal of starting all these rumors in the first place. You can't have a rally if no one shows up. Great job Virginia patriots!!
From ages 34 (with no other health issues) to 89 (with diabetes). Not just elderly and/or infirm.
