I was following map.snapchat.com in Minneapolis all day yesterday. There is a clear pattern. During the day you see actual protests. Blacks, whites, and a lot of older people. Simultaneously, in an area a few miles away you’re getting looters. No chants, no sings, just criminals.
At night it changes. That’s when you see all the white college kids show up. Minneapolis last night around 1AM looked like King’s Landing at the end of Game of Thrones. It was totally out of control, and the people looked possessed. We’re dealing with a mind virus and I don’t know how to fix it.
What’s really odd is that this strategy isn’t even a good financial move. Corporate interests are obviously in the vanguard of the authoritarian left, but they do that out of a misguided perception of how outrage culture works. If they would just grow some balls and stop reacting to blue checkmarks and their temper tantrums, then they’d have a larger audience to hock their shitty products and services to. It is a good move for Twitter if their goal is power. Divide the population and indoctrinate them into a radical ideology, and punish apostates by silencing them.
