I am a female with a high mathematical aptitude. I worked in the USAF and civilian sectors in a stem field and outpaced my male peers, first because of my technical ability and then because of my ability to communicate technical concepts in simple terms. Your generalizations are just that. I could say men are hindered by insecure ego issues but that too is a generalization. In my experience I have been able to compete intellectually with men. I cannot compete physically nor do I want to. Most important to note: in my journey, it wasn't my abilities in the workplace that became an issue, ultimately it was my desire. I wanted to be home and raise my kids once I had babies. I wanted to do domestic stuff. That's what made me happy. I could compete, but my happiness as a woman has been the traditional marital relationship with my husband. We have separate roles that complement each other and everyone is much happier this way. I am still working side things to help our financial goals. All in all I would say to young women that the stress from trying to do two roles is not worth it. You make yourself and your family miserable.

Oh I believe you. True story: when I was a kid, my dad and his uncles/friends would actually make something called turtle soup. They once captured a big snapper and put it in one of those big metal washtubs, put an old door over it, and put a cinder block on top of that to keep it there until the next day when they were going to kill/clean it. In the morning that thing had somehow gotten out. As best as I can guess it's neck muscles were strong enough to push the cinder block and door off............ then it used it's body weight to tip the tub. Funny how you never forget stuff like that. All of us kids were like, "crap, now that thing is still out there in the woods somewhere!" lol

I love this post. Have a big anniversary coming up. My husband has transformed and I have stayed by his side. I've grown too, but he has morphed. It's a long story, but I will just sum it up by saying you are right. Our two sons are awesome and not one person can compare in my eyes to my husband. We'll cross the finish line together.
I like this story because I live in the country and I love turtles (not Mitch). I've only seen small ones in VA, but PA, where I grew up, had big snappers. Glad to hear you are healing up and you have some little guys admiring you. Masculinity is so nice. :)
I did not study statistics, my field was more electrical/computer oriented; but I don't believe an intelligent woman is a statistical outlier. I've known quite a few. Our entire society needs help being pulled up to a higher standard. That's our responsibility.
