Trump's biggest reason to become president, aside endless wars, was for the "free trade" deals that are bleeding America dry, while Paul is a free trader through and through.
Trump didn't start being against wars in 2016, he's been that way his entire life. Ron Paul didn't start the being against wars trend.
If you want to give some credit to someone it should be Pat Buchanan, that's more or less the type of mindset Trump adopted the last decade or so. The Nationalist mindset, not the Libertarian mindset.
