There is indeed no ritualistic formula that works all the time. However, we are comparing two sets of advice here:

This is my understanding of why the first option is no longer the best:
Police Officer "We asked Mr. Smith where he was last evening, and he immediately invoked his right to remain silent!"
Prosecutor / Judge / Jury - "That is very suspicious."
According to James Duane, as per the more recent video, there is case law where this scenario was supported by the Judges, and according to him this is the new norm. I will try to dig up the book and find the references.

Like others said - you find a lawyer, you call family, you have a public defender assigned - with the family finding a lawyer as a priority if you really don't have one. A good idea is to save some numbers to keep in your wallet, and, when detained, request to call those and repeat "I want a Lawyer, now" multiple times.
That was in the past, it is now worse: you should say "I want a lawyer, now" or "I want my lawyer" repeatedly, because the 5th was eroded by the Judiciary. You can no longer just stay silent or invoke it and expect a Jury to not take note.

Saying you plead the 5th is no longer totally fine, it has hazards. I must insist that the only legitimate answer to a Fed is "I want my Lawyer" followed by "I want my lawyer present" and "I want my lawyer now".

1500000+ people showed up at the capital. Their expected mortality is between 2 and 4 people per day, just from age and health issues alone. (Average mortality per 1M per day in USA is 4 dead, primarily older people).
3 people died due to medical conditions, unrelated to the riot.
1 person died due to a potentially illegal shooting by a Guard
1 person died allegedly due the protesters fighting
How many people died in D.C. that day total from all violent crime? How many in Chicago? How many in New York? Fucking hypocrites.
I doubt they will at this time, as that will worry potential new ones. No burning bridges until 100% independent would be a smart policy. Some of these hosts might just be getting forced by other clients or networks, it is not guaranteed they are at fault. They may be victims themselves.
