I'm guessing that Hunter's computer was compromised with some sort of malware and all files were captured by the Chinese CCP for their blackmail program. The anti CCP must have gotten a copy from inside China (speculation) and of course the PC's in Macs computers possession was the original.
But Macs computers said that they gave the laptop to the FBI nearly a year ago. Did he retain possession of the laptop? Did he make his own copies of the hard drives (easy to do).
The chain of possession is very confusing and has not been clearly defined. I guess that's why everyone is still holding this at arms length. It's radioactive.
This is purely speculation on my part. Trump cannot be overly involved in the dump of information that Rudy Giuliani and others have seen. I also now understand why Giuliani had to be vague and circumspect on the details of this thing because it's so sordid, and there is still some question about the source. But I suspect Trump could be someone knowledgeable and is telling his staff to start dumping information so that after the election, he can start hitting these guys hard while the public is eager to see justice done.
