I love this picture because it perfectly encapsulates the ignorance of these people. Cardboard CAN be used in gardens as a moisture barrier; when placed on TOP of the soil. I almost wish the Chad would have lasted a little longer so we could see this failure unfold completely.

I think they kind of did. Part of the reason the first amendment guarantees freedom of religious choice is because they didn't want the government choosing a belief structure for the people. They also didn't want any one religion to be endorsed by the government because the founding fathers held a wide variety of beliefs amongst themselves.
