I think that may be more of a function of the software rather than indicating it's still pinging. It's helpful when you want to know a final destination without having to sit and watch. The entire flight path will be recorded and available until you unclick P, even hours after landing.
On another note, about an hour ago I heard something flying low over the house. Tried to catch a view but I was too late. Hopped on the exchange and saw 2 K35 re-fuelers circling and coming back around. Grabbed my15 yo boy and dragged him out front and perfect timing, they both came directly overhead at about 3900 ft. It's a pretty cool toy, especially when your close to an AFB (MacDill).
Everyone please note: you have to unclcik the "P" icon to see current in flight aircraft. P is for Persistency and will continue to track birds on the ground, inflating your numbers. I actually brought this to Monkey Werx attention on a livestream a few weeks ago. He admitted to not know what the P button does. On a later post, he had looked into it and realized the error. Now he is more careful to let you know if he has it on or off when streaming.
