We are seeing the inevitable result of identity politics run amok. Where a white person would see a "fellow white" charging the police with a knife and think "that dude is gonna get himself shot", black Americans are so immersed in racial tribalism that they view any negative interaction between a "fellow black" and the police as a direct attack against the entire black race. You can see this in the reactions to this shooting all across social media. Black people are saying things like "they take one of ours, we take one of theirs".
