On a small scale (LED lights, receptacles, RV sized refrigerator, laptop and TV's) it can work very well, but when you get into larger loads (AC, heat, cooking, laundry, etc) the efficiency completely breaks down.

I don't know how large of a load you're trying to power, but the build I posted can be increased 10x in size just by adding more panels and batteries (up to 1100watts)

Good luck! I hope it works out for you

with that huge inverter you could add quite a few more solar panels, you'd just need to replace your battery bank with new/more batteries. Solar well pumps are really popular at ranching supplies, too. Sounds like youve got a good system

Solar is off grid as long as its independent of the electrical grid. I do not have a utility hookup at my cabin, but it's had consistent reliable power for 2 years because I built a small solar system. This works well with small loads (little hunting cabin) and not well with large loads (big house with AC, wash/dryers, heaters, etc)

The situation you're talking about is when a large house tries to have utility power as well as solar for backup. This is not off grid, not cost effective, and not reliable.

Drawing on how to build it: https://i.ma.ga/wamK9.png

Here's the parts list, and links to the exact parts you need (the links are to amazon, but don't have to buy from amazon) I'm still working on getting my drawing hosted, the file type seems incompatible. I can easily email it to anyone who inboxes me for it, though.

Lead Acid Deep cycle marine battery (must have dual posts. You’ll be using the smaller, threaded posts. It should come with a nut on the post, if not, buy a nut that fits. This exact battery works fine.

Crimp Ring Terminals (you can get these when you buy the battery, but ill include a link so you see what youre looking for. Get 5AWG sized crimp rings, thats the size of your cable)

Additional hardware:

-two washers that will fit over the threaded battery posts. Any steel washer from home depot, they cost pennies.

-Plastic tote (optional) I like store the controller and battery inside of a plastic tote, and mount the inverter onto the top of the box (for easy access and ventilation) Tools:

Screwdriver (flathead/phillips head)

Wire strippers (or a sharp knife)

Crimpers (or linesman pliers, channel locks, any pliers that can crush a crimp well)

Channel locks (or any plier/socket that will work to tighten the nut onto the battery post)

Drill motor (optional, to drill holes in plastic tote/mount the controller and inverter)

Drill bit (optional, to make holes in the plastic box for the cables to enter/exit)

Small screws and a drill tip to install the screws

Upgrading info:

You have an 1100watt inverter, and each solar panel is 100watts. That means you can put up to 11 solar panels on this system. Just buy more Y Splitter cables and connect more panels.

If you add more panels, or your battery gets old, you may want to add more batteries for more power storage. Never add new batteries to the old battery. An old battery connected to a new battery can catch fire. Dispose of the old battery and install new batteries (all of the same age, make, and size. They must be identical).

I just made a list, prices have gone up a bit but it comes out to $295 for all the parts you'd need. And the hardware is oversized, so you have the option to add more batteries and panels to the existing equipment (up to 10 more panels, so 10x the size)

I'll draw a laymens schematic anyone could follow, and include links to the parts. Any ideas where I could host this information so its publicly accessible?

The problem is the definition of "good person"

You may be deemed a bad person for being a Christian. For being gay. For voting a certain way. For typing certain questions into a search engine.

I can build a solar system for $250, and will give away the instructions to any pede that wants them.

Exactly. People have careers they've built for decades and don't want to lose. They have homes and mortgages, spouses and children... sure, they could stand up for what's right, but what if they lose their job, and cant pay the mortgage? What if they're arrested and no one is at home for their kids? What if no one stands with them, and they lose everything for nothing?

People wont revolt until they're hungry, homeless, and penniless.

Accurate. If only more people were actually well versed on a single topic. I know a lot of leftists who arn't well versed on anything except the newest TV series and their jobs.,.. and nobody is reporting on baristas and highschool english teachers.
