This is the second what is the cup thread you've made. Both have devolved into nothing. If you are so highly enlightened, share your superior knowledge. Impress upon us what only you know.
There are many cups in the bible, what they represent literally or figuratively mean nothing. All that matters is Christ, his sacrifice and resurrection.
No one has ever gone to heaven and returned. But the Son of Man has come down from heaven. And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life. John 3:13-15 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/jhn.3.13-15.NLT
https://thedonald.win/p/11RhKJDxJc/many-of-you-reject-the-bible-as-/ This you? You literally made my argument about NLT.
You say there is no free will. But why does scripture say: “Look, today I am giving you the choice between a blessing and a curse! You will be blessed if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today. But you will be cursed if you reject the commands of the Lord your God and turn away from him and worship gods you have not known before. Deuteronomy 11:26-28 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/deu.11.26-28.NLT
And again:
“You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. Matthew 7:13 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/mat.7.13.NLT
If your argument is that you have to partake the Lord's blood as communion, why did the thief on the cross get a pass?
Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:42-43 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/luk.23.42-43.NLT
You seem fixated on the golden idol of the cup. James the apostle did die for his faith. And John suffered greatly for his. You do not understand scripture as you should.
Anyone who teaches something different is arrogant and lacks understanding. Such a person has an unhealthy desire to quibble over the meaning of words. This stirs up arguments ending in jealousy, division, slander, and evil suspicions. 1 Timothy 6:4 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/1ti.6.4.NLT
he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, I Timothy 6:4 NKJV https://bible.com/bible/114/1ti.6.4.NKJV
They also didn't talk about the baptism either. Does that make it any less God's word? If the NLT can bring someone to Christ, why do you condemn it? Being a theological purist doesn't make you correct, it just shows a lack of compassion. Just because the word doesn't have an origin in greek does not discredit the translation.
Jesus told them, “You will indeed drink from my bitter cup. But I have no right to say who will sit on my right or my left. My Father has prepared those places for the ones he has chosen.” Matthew 20:23 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/mat.20.23.NLT
Jesus is talking to them about the way he will be rejected and how he will be crucified. He has warned us multiple times we will suffer the same for his name. Just as he was warning them.
He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” Matthew 26:39 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/mat.26.39.NLT
Then Jesus left them a second time and prayed, “My Father! If this cup cannot be taken away unless I drink it, your will be done.” Matthew 26:42 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/mat.26.42.NLT
Be forewarned, the freedom we have had to worship Christ in the open is being stripped away.
“Then you will be arrested, persecuted, and killed. You will be hated all over the world because you are my followers. And many will turn away from me and betray and hate each other. And many false prophets will appear and will deceive many people. Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come. Matthew 24:9-14 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/mat.24.9-14.NLT
