Story time! The time was 1940. Hitler already rose to power from 1933 to 1939. The Jewish people and most normal Germans were at where we are today.
They had a maniac rise to power. Most of them were forced to live under authoritarian policies under threat of being fired from jobs, shunned from society, jailed or murdered. They also thought, someone will save us. But they were all loaded on the train. They went through indescribably horrible treatment at the hands of their fellow people.
They were almost out of hopium and then a true miracle happened. The allies pushed through and the Americans liberated countless camps. the nazi's were destroyed and the animals "just doing their jobs" were tried and hanged like the fucking scum they were.
We're at that point now. However, we as Americans are at a point. Who will come for us when our hopium dies?
I fear for our country, our republic, and our people. We're alone in this. The only hopium we should have is in ourselves, our friends, our communities. We the People are our own hopium.

We need to act out Gods will, not hope for it IMHO. Before it's to late. Some people have different moral lines in the sand and even less willingness to act on them. Not that I am any different. I have mine and I'll keep them to myself in a nonsecure forum.
They always did a good job of keeping us "on mission". Like like you said, busy with training, deploying and the rest of the job. But in our hearts we loved the idea of service to our once great nation.
I always wondered why vets turned on their leaders. I thought it was a bit disrespectful. But when my eyes opened up and I became wiser, I see the truth about it now.
Our "elected" representatives took advantage of our love for our country, what it stands for and the brave history of those that sacrificed their lives to make us better ss a nation. Even worse, they did it to sell all that we stood for out and line their bank accounts with blood money and grant special privileges to their families and friends.
