It started with my roommate and I coming up with a few baselines ("fit kid, fat parents" is my favorite, but "sob story montage" was really the catalyst for the whole thing) during the London Olympics in 2012, and then I carried it on since then, making adaptations depending on country, newsworthy items, etc.
