I grew up hunting over Red Setters ,so have a weak spot for setters they are such majestic animals when they are working in the field.
I have been a guide for over a decade so have been lucky that my dogs get a lot of time in the field actually working ,so they end up good workers l am proud of . Although l have been offered big dollars by several clients for a couple of my dogs l could never sell them as we spend just to much time together on my Ranch & hunting so the bond is strong.

Regarding the questions on the Vizsla ,the coat is fr after the hunt ,they feel the cold after working up a sweat in the high country where we hunt ,slogging it up & down mountain ridge lines .
We have a Cattle Ranch & the homestead sits on over 300 Acres so the dogs get plenty of exercise every day ,both of them travel with me all over every day while l am checking our cattle etc,they are both experts at finding the nearest puddle when l pull up in the Truck or SXS & only shake themselves off when l sit back next to them in the cab .Being a Cattle Ranch both are better fed than bred, (same for their owner),we do all our own home butchering, so they are always keen helpers when that is being done as well.
I love calling in ducks & having a well set up & positioned blind also.
I do a bit of guiding & most of my favorite hunting memories involve hunting over a well trained dog . She is a great do on Pheasant & Quail as well & does a great job even finding downed Deer & Elk in thick brush.
I mostly stalk ,we do a lot of high country steep terrain hunting ,so we get up high & glass the most likely positions .Most times the dog will catch the scent drifting up from the valley's & prop ,so l always pay attention to her body language,but like any well oiled team we always seem to know what the other is thinking as a lot of the time if l spot something she will lock on to where l am concentrating & if l bring the gun not the binoculars up she will lock into point while crouching/laying down .
The main aid dogs provide while hunting large game in thick brushed country is finding the fallen game ,as often you are shooting across steep mountain valley's, covered in thick brush etc & the dead animal will roll down it while you are hiking to it,so they save you losing any game.I guide so this is a important job she fulfills on client hunts .

Devil Dog Sako the Vizsla ,caught impersonating a Lumber Jack ,one of the best hunting dogs l have ever owned & what happens when a 7mm SAUM takes your head clean off at 135 yards,no wasted meat just prime Venison to feed the family.
Sako dined on a celebratory home cooked Venison Neck Stew & Veni Bones for the next week .
What l do as far as training all my dogs for it really comes around from simple extension /reinforcement of the basic sit & stay commands ,after you have taught them the sit & stay & it becomes second nature to them, l simply start with even just a ball playing fetch where you get them to stay even though they are hyped up about chasing the ball etc & build on it from there.
We have a ranch so these simple commands are amongst the most important our dogs learn from puppy stage as they are constantly around a wide range of animals including those who will stomp their ass if they go/approach what they should not.
Good luck with the Oz Shep we have had 2 on the ranch, you will need to get solid time in training before they develop bad habits ,both ours were saved from being put down killing chickens,chasing stock etc on the old owners farms
I do a bit of guiding & one of the best turkey dogs l have ever seen was a Boykin ,l have hunted a lot of ducks over them in South Carolina, where they were real popular a few years ago. Great dogs & very good on Quail as well.
