Right. I look around in my own life and I see a lot of people who care deeply about politics and see this stuff happening and they are rightfully furious. However, there are also a lot of people who 'don't follow politics' and just believe whatever CNN or Steven Colbert tells to believe.
Unfortunately, the only way that the second group of people will ever decide to start following politics is when people they care about start dying.

I mentor a trans girl in high school right now. Pre-transition (still goes to school as a guy) he had good grades and did okay at sports and stuff, but nothing special. A solid A-B student, middle of the pack in basketball, volunteered at church on occasion, no misbehavior or anything, overall good kid.
Then she transitioned and suddenly started getting all these sweet scholarships and free rides for being a 'woman in STEM' and 'athletic achievement'. Now she's straight A, best on her team, and has a free ride for her choice of collage with a fucking fellowship stipend.
She looks to me for guidance since I'm also trans and have my shit (relatively) together... which if you haven't noticed is pretty rare in the trans community. What am I supposed to tell her, Pedes? On the one hand she's clearly winning the game of life now. On the other hand... it feels pretty scummy and exploity. What to do....
