Otherwise People can bring in ballots from the list of registered voters who didn’t vote by the deadline. And no one would even be able to find out without canvassing hundreds of thousands of individuals. For this reason, late ballots will be deemed unconstitutional under the equal protection clause.
There’s deadline for ballots for this very reason. The Supreme Court should, if they are following judicial precedent, rule in this manner. Any ballot arriving after the polls are closed, when voters are no longer allowed to cast ballots, is not, and can not be a legal ballot.
There’s no logical argument against this reasoning, because the alternative leaves a massive hole in ballot processing, easily susceptible to nearly unlimited scalability of fraud. Without this ruling, there is no way to remedy this opening in the system.
