They regularly do volunteer work. He has a job as well (helping my wife clean offices).

We purchase the Abecka program. It's books, worksheets, etc. It isn't necessary, but it sure makes homeschooling much easier and it makes sure you don't miss important topics if you just do it on your own.

Homeschool parent here. My oldest child just completed 6th grade and all his test scores indicates he is more proficient in all his skills than what is needed to graduate high school.

I'm not bragging here... I'm showing at how weak public school standards are.

Homeschooling is expensive because it reduces income, and you have to pay for curriculum. But your child will be ready for real-world life... not some kind of virtual reality where girls can have a penis.
