This shut down isn't in Victoria. It's in a different state. The last time they had shutdowns, they opened back up a matter of days later, exactly as promised.

South Australia is run by a right of center government too. They are one of the only states left who also have independent and religious-right members of state/federal government. They have some incredibly based politicians, including almost completely across the board support for keeping abortions illegal in the sate.

• It's only 6 days of lockdowns and everything opens back up on Wednesday. The re-opening schedule has been published for anyone to obtain.

• Shops / supermarkets / petrol stations & anything deemed "essential services" are staying open, they aren't closing. Essential services extends right out to things even like getting your car serviced, buying anything required for the office, etc....

• Masks are not mandatory as the government can't supply them, they are simply being "advised" to be worn if at all possible.

• Regional travel is not totally banned and public transport (Bus/Trams/Trains) are staying open and services for all of them are running as normal.

• People are not required to totally stay home. They can leave to do shopping, groceries, visit loved one's, care for family members, travel to or from work, etc.... They are free to walk/jog/cycle while going any of those places for exercise.

• Anything done for the purposes of "mental health well-being" is a total exception to the lockdown rules. Reporter queried the chief of police about it in the presser and how to enforce the restrictions based on the mental health part and he simply responded "the community will do what the community will do, we aren't locking anyone up for that. They'll need to be responsible but we aren't under any illusions that it won't be taken advantage of. We just ask people do what they think is the right thing". So it's basically a case of don't throw a huge party (gatherings of up to 10 people are still fine) and there won't be any issues.

*** I'm not an advocate for shutdowns, but it it's needed to stop a highly virulent strain for part of a week, then at least it's a good thing it's being done by a right of center government like this who already went through this once and kept their word on it being a days-only shutdown before everything resumed as normal again.
