the kicker is that they can only directly control short term rates. Things such as the 5 year, 10 year, 30 year yields are things they can only effect indirectly by buying the government bonds when nobody else does.
All the longer term rates will go up if they do not buy the bonds. Then by buying the bonds they create the conditions for monetary inflation which leads to a vicous cycle of the market wanting higher rates.

You're vastly oversimplifying things. I have friends that are doctors, lawyers from top law schools, engineers that graduated from top 20 programs, that are smarter than 99% of people in this country.
The problem is that they are ideologically conforming to the current environment created by the deep state media.
A rebellious construction worker who refuses to wear a mask is not smarter than a pulmonary surgeon who wears a mask because "we're all in this together."
