Unless your CPU/chipset is quite old, it has a backdoor built in that permits hardware-level access to you computer. In other words, it doesn't matter what OS or security/firewall software you use. It permits access to your computer, over the Internet, through the backdoor, whenever your computer is plugged in.
In the case of Intel, the backdoor is present in the form of IME (Intel Management Engine). In the case of AMD, the backdoor is present in the form of PSP (Platform Security Processor)(aka: AST).

Possible reasons for the face coverings

• Establishing and maintaining the illusion of a pandemic. As we saw during the recent engineered riots/protests (when nearly all media virtually entirely stopped talking about 'covid'), unless the pandemic illusion is maintained consistently, it quickly becomes apparent that this is all a farce. This is why the type of face covering doesn't really matter to them. They know it has nothing to do with protection against a pathogen. They just need you to be wearing something that indicates that the pandemic is real and that you believe it's real.

• Concealing the identities of operatives, rioters/destabilizers, crisis actors and well known individuals (eg, celebrities & politicians) during the global power grab operations taking place. Single-use crisis actors suddenly becomes infinitely reusable.

• A symbol of submission. One that not only signals (to the people and cameras around you) your submission, but also causes you to feel as though you've submitted. Like breaking a horse.

• Training for Gates injections. In a few months virtually all of the false claims made about masks will be shifted over to Gates injections ('vaccines'). People refusing the injection will be demonized the same way people refusing to wear the masks are being demonized. They'll be attacked with witch-burner fervor, and forced injections will be applauded.

• Gang sign. A declaration of the team you have chosen. eg, the team wearing the masks would be 'team science' , 'team compassion' , 'team obedient', 'team responsible', 'team collective', 'team socialism', 'team communism', 'team progressive' ... While those not wearing the masks would be 'team ignorance' , 'team heartless' , 'team disobedient' , 'team irresponsible' , 'team individual', 'team selfish', 'team capitalism', 'team conservative' ... in other words, nice clean two-sided division (favored by TPTB) & herding.

• People - whether innately or through conditioning - are always on the lookout for someone to be the 'bad guy'; the enemy. If everyone in the world were identical except for their accent, there would be groups designated as the 'bad guys' based on nothing but their different accent. The mask orders allow for a situation in which the majority wearing the masks can be the 'good guys' and the minority refusing to wear masks can be the 'bad guys'. False media & government claims about masks being the path back to normal will further fuel the effect. The mindless mask wearers will love to hate the 'anti-maskers'. In other words, the mask wearers become the attack dogs against all dissenters.

• Acclimating people to obeying medical martial law orders and priming for forced invasive medical procedures.

• Crippling facial identification systems & technologies, either to hurt an opposing power faction or to further establish a 'need' for biometric identification systems & implants.

• By getting people to wear the masks TPTB are able to get them to declare to themselves that the virus is as real & deadly as they're being told. This declaration is virtually set in stone if those people can then also be made to reprimand, chastise or simply have strong negative feelings towards those not wearing masks. Because of the extremely strong subconscious human desire to not want to admit to being wrong, the brains of those people will reject new contrary information. In fact, they will likely continue to defend the foundation of the official narrative for the rest of their lives.

• Further elimination of the concept of the individual. There is no individual, only the collective - the ant colony, adhering to the directions & stated beliefs of whoever is perceived to be the trusted leader of the colony. There is no gender. There is no race. There is no individual thought. There is no individual face.

• Training facial recognition AI to be able to recognize faces that are mostly covered. This AI training is being carried out at the same time that humans are being trained to stay 6ft apart for the purpose of allowing AI to optically identify & track people with less obstruction. This possibility doesn't have much credibility as a primary motive since training AI to recognize partially covered faces could be, and would be, carried out in a controlled setting (a significantly staffed lab, military base or other facility). Additionally, it is extremely unlikely that TPTB would ever push so incredibly hard for global face covering compliance just to train AI for such a thing, especially when it will simultaneously normalize face coverings and train the public to consider donning a face covering before leaving the house post-scamdemic just to cover their acne breakout, healing plastic surgery, makeup-free face, unshaven face, crooked teeth or other disliked facial feature (behavior already common in China, Japan and South Korea). Which would, of course, have net-negative effect on AI facial recognition, regardless of how advanced the AI gets.

• Allowing people to bring their anonymity-facilitated, zero-accountability internet rage to the real world. The vicious, mindless SJW's you encounter on 'anonymous' forums will now feel comfortable being similarly vicious in real life. The anonymous internet NWO attack dogs can now be anonymous real world NWO attack dogs, with the ability to physically engage in protesting, obstruction, destruction and violence.

• Ad space and new sexually neutral article of clothing. People are going to buy masks with their favorite brands, logos and political statements and it's going to enter the brain of everyone who sees the person (significantly more-so than T-shirts). Not only is this going to happen, it's already happening - it started happening almost immediately. And the birth of a new sexually neutral clothing article means a new multi-billion-dollar branch of the apparel industry.

• Identifying the disobedient. Cameras in supermarkets, and other places where face coverings are explicitly required, will capture the faces of everyone who refused to wear a face covering, allowing for the creation of a database of troublemakers/dissenters.

• Protection against harmful particles (or nanotech) intentionally or accidentally released into the atmosphere. The obedient taxcattle will be protected and the dissenters will not. This possibility doesn't have much credibility since TPTB have shown no genuine care about the type of face covering worn. They don't care if the covering is capable of filtering particles or not. Additionally, they only stress the use of face coverings while around other people even though the particles/nanotech would be present even while you're alone.

• The next stage in training people to surrender freedom for a promised increase in 'safety'. In this stage, fundamental freedoms are surrendered for even a minuscule increase in 'safety', and with virtually no convincing evidence presented whatsoever; just the statements of media outlets, celebrities and a few perceived authorities/experts.

• Hijacking the craving of people (particularly people of recent generations) to virtue signal, for the purpose of creating an army of followers that massively outnumber — and will engage in shaming and policing — non-followers.

• Communism acclimation. Specifically acclimation to the concept of replacing your 'selfish' drive to meet the wants & needs of yourself & your family with a drive to meet the wants & needs of strangers (millions of strangers in fact), and blindly following the instruction of "experts" or "scientists" (ie, infallible authority) on how to meet those wants & needs. This is why they keep driving home the point that the masks aren't to protect you, they're to protect others from you. It's essentially one of the same core elements of the 'climate change' scam, copy-pasted into the 'covid' scam, but in the 'climate change' scam, you're protecting others from your CO2 emissions, rather than your viral emissions. Presumably, the masks, or some analog of them, is a known necessary primer for converting a society to communism. A primer that most of the population is unaware of but which those obsessed with bringing communism (read: nicely packaged tyranny) to the world are well aware of.

• By dehumanizing us as nothing more than germ carrying super spreaders, they reduce interaction by like minded people who might organize, spread truth and induce courage & dissent in their communities

• Making it more possible for politicians/authorities to fearlessly lie to us without us being able to easily read the lies written on their faces. Even the ones who are terrible actors/liars can confidently participate in the script.

• The masks are to satisfy the Muslims. It is to install Sharia Law in Christian nations. It's not about a virus. Consider, Hep A is more dangerous than COVID, and it's not even airborne.
