You got it right. Most people think the Civil War was about slavery. The Civil War was about states rights. It had very little to do with slavery. Lincoln didn't issue the Emancipation Proclamation until 2 years after the start of the Civil War, when the North was losing badly and needed a reason to continue the fight.
It wasn't slavery because Lincoln said he merely wished to preserve the Union. He didn't care if the South had slaves. This is not what they teach the kids in school, however. Also, the North had slaves, and Lincoln didn't free them. The Emancipation Proclamation didn't free any slaves at all: In the North, where Lincoln had power to free the Northern slaves, no slaves were freed. In the South, were Lincoln had no power to free any slaves, the slaves were ostensibly freed, but no one told them as they were in separate country from the United States.

No, that sounds about right, but it was obviously a huge mistake. I've hosted my own website out of my house for 20 years. Hard to imagine that they missed this trick. All they had to do was 1) register the domain and 2) make annual payments to keep the registration current. Somehow they missed this part. Hopefully they don't make the same mistake again. If they don't take the reigns and register the domain name, and keep making the annual payments, then they'll have the same problem again.
