Multiethnic is not necessarily the same thing as multiracial.
Having a tiny portion of the population of an empire, usually its capital, whose ancestors lived hundreds of miles away, is not equivalent to the large scale multiracial society that is common in the modern West and elsewhere.
Most territories ruled by the center of an empire did not have significant genetic shifts even with foreign invasions.
Regardless, humans have existed as very low diversity bands for many more millennia than since the advent of civilizations, and many humans in many parts of the world lived that way even until recent generations.
The multiracial society didn’t exist large scale until the modern era.

Race-consciousness is a phrase that has a specific meaning. It just means you’re aware of race (and it’s consequences).
Economic “conservatives” (like those of “Con. Incorporated”) literally profit when you accept a “color blind” worldview because then you’re more likely to accept a dilution in your wages, purchasing power, and even political influence as theoretically unlimited numbers of people can be absorbed as laborers, consumers, and voters for the same market, country, and government without opposition.

I saw some genetic study analysis that claimed that most of Egyptians’ ancestry is indigenous to the area for millennia, so they’ve always been primarily brown people essentially even if their rulers were whiter or blacker given different regimes.
