Magnetic pole shift has been ongoing for 150yrs. Magnetic field strength weakening is accelerating as well. We are very vulnerable position and it's going to get worse as the sun wakes up for the next solar cycle. The power grid is the most concerning vulnerability as a Carrington level event with a weaker magnetic field poses a serious threat to some of the biggest electrical transformers on the grid. Nevermind all of the power lines.
My personal feeling is that we have less than 10 years. Hopefully it's just a big solar flare and coronal mass ejection and not something worse.
Magnetic north has been on basically a straight and accelerating trajectory since the Carrington Event in 1859.
My guess is two more poles are currently forming in the South Atlantic, and we'll have a quadrapole for a while.
That definitely won't backfire 🙄
