I've been advocating for this for a long time, just wish more pedes would've listened. HAM is not CB/FRS/GMRS. Getting your Tech license is incredibly easy (I aced all three elements in one sitting, went from no license to Amateur Extra, so no excuses). BUT (and this is why I've been pushing this): It takes experience to be proficient with amateur radio. Sure 2 meter HT's and a local repeater are great for local coms as long as you know/trust the repeater owner. HF is where long distance communications exist and it takes a bit of knowledge and practice to get results. Antenna theory and propgation aren't difficult subjects, but you have to start. What's the old saying about planting trees - "The best time was 20 years ago, the next best time is today"

I believe I joined r/The_Donald 2 or 3 days before the election in 2016. Was so happy to finally find a place with like minded people. Stayed up all night on election day following the posts there and watching Juan Williams melt down on Fox. So happy to have a safe home (THANK YOU MODS!) this year.
