NH resident here. I'm as pissed about this as anyone, but I do think there may be a logical explanation.
The simple fact is that Republicans and Independents came out of the fucking woodwork on election day to vote for Trump. The problem is that even more Democrats and Independents came out of the woodwork to vote against Trump. Dems outnumber Reps here. It's an unfortunate reality stemming from a large number of Massholes moving up here, coupled with the fact that out-of-state college students are able to vote in our elections (even when they're attending remotely, which is completely ridiculous). I also think that legacy media's non-stop anti-Trump propaganda for the past 4 years had a massive effect on our older residents who still get all of their news from those outlets.
The bottom line is that Reps are more spread-out throughout the state and across the various districts, whereas Dems are highly concentrated in the more metropolitan areas. Republicans benefitted at the state-level elections from being spread out across the various districts, while Democrats benefited at the federal election level because all that really matters in those elections is sheer number (location doesn't matter).
Lastly, the Reps (Sununu) won the governorship because Sununu is massively popular (he's a moderate Rep, he's taken a light-handed approach to COVID-19, and he's kept his distance from Trump, which minimized the rage vote by Dems).
I'm a California licensed attorney who previously handled conservatorship cases (think of a conservatorship as like a guardianship, but for adults) among other matters. The type of situation highlighted in the story above happens all over California because the California courts simply refuse to remove the right to vote from conservatees unless the individual is effectively brain dead. One of my attorney colleagues who was a proud Democrat once told me how disgusted he was with the system. His tipping point was when he discovered that the owner of a large group home told him that she would regularly vote straight Democrat on behalf of all of her residents.
Let’s be serious here. If there was even a mere appearance of impropriety within any single one of President Trump’s past personal tax returns or those of one of his organizations, some lackey within the IRS would have anonymously released the returns YEARS ago. Just remember that this cuts both ways. Should, God forbid, Sleepy Joe be elected, all of Sleep Joe’s personal returns and those of his organizations and associates become fair game.
This election should be interesting here in NH if many of the colleges, including UNH go remote. If that’s the case, I don’t think out-of-state students will be able to vote here in November. That’s been one of the biggest reasons as to why NH has moved from being a red state to a purple state. The other big reason, of course, is all of the Massholes who move here to escape the shithole known as Massachusetts and then continue to vote for Democrats.
