EDIT #2 - Apparently the voicemail is full, and someone spoke on behalf of the president saying Ned's statements were his "free speech as a private citizen". Here is a sample email to sent to [email protected]:
To whom it may concern, I have read your defense of Ned Staebler, stating that his threats toward William Hartman and Monica Palmer were his "personal opinion as a private citizen" and that you "defend his freedom of speech". Unfortunately, character defamation does not fall under freedom of speech and is, in fact, illegal. Ned Staebler did not present his accusations of William Hartman and Monica Palmer as opinions. He did not state anything along the lines of, "it is my belief..", "I think..", or "it is my opinion that..". He firmly stated they ARE racists, and that "The stain of racism that you, William Hartman and Monica Palmer have covered yourself in, is going to follow you throughout history. Your grandchildren are going to think of you like Bull Connor or George Wallace." These statements were stated as facts, not opinions. These are verbal threats to defame William and Monica's character. All because they have different opinions from him. This is disgusting behavior from someone so high up at your college. I am not just disappointed that you have someone with this type of character working and making important decisions at Wayne State, but that you have the audacity to defend his blatant and potentially life-ruining threats against these kind people who are just trying to do the jobs they were elected, by us, to do. I called the university he works at, the helpful man on the line said he has received only a couple calls about some guy named Ned.

My S/O and I just voted straight Republican tickets!! The line was short and went fast, poll workers were kind and helpful, no issues with the machines. Just thought I'd share a positive experience compared to some of the negative I've been seeing on here.
