It really shouldn’t be complicated. Either the de-esser and equalizer will make the audio clear or it won’t. Might be hard to make out some of the words if they’re said at the same frequencies as the humming in the background. Should be five minutes of working with it when I go to work on my music in a minute. It’ll take another second to put the processed audio back over the video. I’ll make a post, and I’ll share that link to it in another comment here so you don’t have to dig for it.

I’m a musician on vacation, and I’ve been working on a new song in my home studio eight hours a day for a week. I should be able to make a track with this audio and clean it up some in Pro Tools with a de-esser and the right equalizer. What troubles me -from the same standpoint- is that it already came through so clear with background noise. If you couldn’t hear the rest of the conversation at all, why would she say “Probably gonna get caught.” loud enough to hear it over the machine hums? I’ll go see what I can do with this in my studio.

People who tell you what you can’t do are really telling you either they can’t do it, or likely they never tried because somebody else told them they couldn’t do it that way. Sounds like you have both publishers over a barrel for negotiations if they’re both interested. Either one will likely assign you an agent to help promote the book they’re investing in, and then you will have an agent. I just got up because I’m an unsupervised night owl on vacation. Wish I could help you with agents. I think they’re like college these days- a formality. You can learn anything you want on your own these days and become an expert with OJT and practice. I have a company that assigns a barcode to my songs for sales and emails the audio file, barcode, and album art to iTunes, Spotify, Amazon... That’s the only thing I don’t do on my own. Don’t let any moron tell you you can’t make it without an agent. You just have to want it bad enough to do your own footwork, and be good with self-promotion. Make a google knowledge panel for yourself, upload professional pictures taken with a decent phone and a little photo editing with an app, have a youtube channel, start a blog, you can send in for your own copyrights directly to the Library of Congress for a $35 federal filing fee and get trademarks for yourself for a couple hundred dollars. I’ve done all of that- as well as getting artist’s access to music platforms by emailing them and proving I am the artist (which is similar to what a writer would have to do with other platforms). Your publisher will likely do almost of that for you. I don’t have a real record/production company backing me up with an agent for live appearances. Here’s where I’m going to be a total hypocrite and tell you to promote yourself from an outsider’s perspective. I’m horrible with mass promotion because my social media is very small. If I really wanted to spread my music more, I’d have to invest time and money to promotion. You can pay to have your music heard and reviewed in various platforms by bloggers, radio stations, and record companies, as well as getting people you know to help you spread the word— the more the merrier. I have a solid job for income, I’m as bad at self-promotion as most musicians Who think the merit of their work will carry them to success, and I honestly just make music for fun because I love music. I enjoy finding out what writers and musicians think of my work, and I couldn’t care less what the general public that listens to Cardi B. thinks. Your publisher —either one— will give you an agent to help you promote the book they’re investing in the same way a record company would. And it sounds like you have both options over a barrel for negotiations with one that would be less expensive and one that’s potentially more reputable. Finally got some vacation time and wife’s in Hawaii visiting her family- so I’m recording my next few songs at home. I just posted an acoustic demo video for the first song I’m recording- “Maybe It’s Time We Laughed Again”. Full version has a lot more sound and personality. After that, I’m starting on another politically-motivated song called “Revelation” which will be a little more rock&roll. Still watching for the book. Did you get the decision from the publisher yet?
