Or maybe everything isn't a conspiracy theory. It isn't the flu. Good grief. This is a real thing. I am sorry about your job, I truly, really am. But what else is there to do? People will die. Trump says 2.2 million without these factors. Come on man. Trust the guy.
I really disagree with how you're reading this. I don't think he's sending coded messages. I think he means what he says: we're at war with a virus. The virus is dangerous. If it weren't, Trump could have stood his ground in the face of the fear mongers, and then when it turned out that absolutely nothing came of the "horrible virus," he would have looked like a genius. But his actions were nothing like that.
I guess I can understand that the media is so normally full of it that at some point even rational people will distrust literally anything they say. That does make sense. But it's also true that sometimes, there really are just, you know, regular old crises that have to be addressed. And thankfully we have Donald Trump in there to address them, instead of the alternative, which would have been way worse.
I have a dollar bill that I carry around that I got him to sign. I'm also a fan, and so I meant it as a kind of badge of honor/elbow in the ribs. Look, in truth, stuff like this gives me pause, too. If it were anyone else, I'd be more critical. But Trump has a lot of trust built up with me, and I do feel like this is an extraordinary situation. I don't think it's out of order to raise the question. It ought to make everyone at least a little uncomfortable.
Alright, calm down there Ron Paul. You know, I have a right I be in my back yard, but if the cops were chasing a perp through the neighborhood and told me to stay inside, I wouldn’t be like “f you pig, I’m barbecuing!” It’s not the end of the world.
But it doesn't "end" those things. I think you're right to be suspicious and concerned, but these haven't ended. We're in an extraordinary situation. It's only been two weeks. Even if it ends up being two months...that's really a blip on the radar. If they're still doing this stuff when the virus threat has passed, I'll be right here with you, but as of yet, I think it's a little premature to be talking about the total collapse of the American way.
See, I can't believe you're being downvoted since your position is Trump's position. Trump didn't come out and say HCQ was the miracle cure and that since it's out there the whole world can go back to normal. He never said anything like that. What he said was that he feels good about it, and maybe it wouldn't work out. But if you say that, people downvote you.
You're the one who is pro-Trump here, guy. Don't let them get you down.
Thank you man.
I lived in Canada for two years. Some things were great (like the complete absence, comparatively, of crime), but man...those prices and taxes were outrageous.
It really is that simple.
Good grief, dude. They closed some stores for a couple weeks, produced some needed medical supplies, and gave people an advance on a tax credit they were going to get anyway next year. It's not the end of the Republic.
I've been told I don't support Trump on this, but Trump is the one who enacted Defense Production, supported the stimulus, and encourages people to stay home. So to me, supporting those things is supporting the President, but then I got called a shill by posters denying that Covid-19 is a serious issue, complaining about "government overreach" and saying that we need to open the country up now, even though Trump himself didn't call for that. Weird.
Oh I don’t know, and it’s an important question. I guess for me, this is why it matters who is in charge. Trust is a big part of this thing.
Sorry to keep you waiting
I used to be like that. And I understand why people think that way. But, at least for me, as time went on I realized I don’t live on a theoretical chart of political opinions. It’s good to have principals...and it is essential that we don’t just follow every whim that arises in our minds...but sometimes you have to do things out of the ordinary, with the firm resolve that, we’re the situation different, you’d have made a different call. This is specifically why it really matters who is in office. At least for me.
Actual stock car racing.
Dude I just went and listened to it. Perfect call.
My sister-in-law is a hospital nurse in a hard hit area. She says there’s nothing they can do for people other than help them breathe anyway, so since they don’t have the capacity, if you don’t need medical staff to keep you breathing you’re really on your own.
The panic is about a real thing though. If people think this or that element of the response is an overreaction or is unnecessary, fine. But support the President and trust him when he says the virus is a big enough deal to consider it a war enemy. It’s funny that I’m the one considered divisive on here when I’m the one speaking in line with Trump and others are basically saying he’s shut down the US economy for no reason, there are no actual cases of Coronavirus, COVID is a psyop to take over the treasury department, what have you.
It’s not hard to understand: there’s a new virus that is contagious and causes some serious complications in a minority, though not an insignificant number, of those who contract it. In countries where this has already taken hold, and in the opinion of the world’s leading disease experts, this set of conditions could ravage the workforce and overwhelm healthcare capacity. Shutting down operations for a time is a painful remedy, but on balance is considered the best option that we have.
Everybody on Trump’s team—from Trump on down—agrees with this basic premise. It sucks that people are losing their jobs, but then Trump has agreed to spend TRILLIONS of dollars trying to combat that. Maybe the people on here who think they know better, calling this all communist treason, losing their minds about being told to sacrifice a little bit for the good of the country, etc. are actually the divisive ones. That’s how it looks to me.
Help what? There is no crisis, according to many on this very site.
What they were used to was different, though. And what government was presumed “allowed” to do.
There were other things they put up with on a regular basis that we don’t. Think about the alien and sedition acts, or the fact that the states were perfectly well allowed to have established state religions, etc.
Okay. What's your alternative? To hell with the sick?
