You read the rules, you played by them, and you were supposed to win by them because the other team wasn't even practicing for the game. When game day arrived, you learned that they took over the training and hiring programs for the referees, and took all of the board seats on the company that manufactures the trophies.
You got played. I got played. Our good nature and belief that deep down humans are good led us to trust institutions that we didn't have our eyes on. We need to be more involved in local politics, we need to insert ourselves into the inner workings of our local elections. We can't expect others to do it for us. Just showing up to vote isn't cutting it anymore. If you don't have time to do the work, then you need to fund people who do and will represent your interests there.
Next time it shouldn't be Zuckerberg paying poll workers, it should be us. We have jobs. We're not all broke. The rules changed in 2020 and it's our job to play by the new rules.
