I've been a correctional officer for awhile now. Its always been difficult. The hours, the environment, the stress. It's taken its toll, and I sometimes wonder if I'll be able to make use of my pension when I do get to retire.

There's always been a push for prison reform, and while I do agree that it needs it, I don't agree with how the powers at be are trying to change it. Dumping gas on a fire won't put it out just because it's a liquid. In my time here, we've went from calling the people incarcerated here inmates, to offenders, and now to "persons in our care". This doesn't seem like a big deal, but the ramifications and the future of reformation are now worse than ever.

There is a sense of entitlement on the blocks now. I'm scared I'll lose my job because I might say the wrong thing, or refer to a trans inmate as sir or Mr. My institution has effectively became a daycare where an inmate can sue the state because his food wasn't warm enough.

Anyone else experience this?
