The point isn't to prove to normal people that they are right. The point for Democrats is to make normal people do as they are told every time and no matter how ridiculous or contradictory the order. The core philosophical distinction is obedience.
There were other people working effectively as well as TR to get this scandal exposed, including a police woman from Manchester and a social worker (I think) from Oldham. One of the Labour Party MPs (I think Anne Cryer) brought this to Parliament's attention as well. The point is that once this broke, as a national scandal, people were outraged and the Criminal Prosecution Service had to act. Yes, it was far too late and it was disgraceful but there have now been multiple trials of these men and multiple convictions with long prison sentances. Tommy Robinson knowingly endangered a trial of several such men. If that trial had been ruled unsafe, then other trials would have been affected as well. It was reckless and stupid and THAT is why he was arrested.
No, the FBI are the arm of the authoritarian state. Those people don't give a shit about liberal policies, they just use them as a weapon with which to beat the conservative majority into submission. If the people were liberal, this lot would force them to church etc. Once the republic becomes an empire, the liberals will discover that they have no protection either
