If the cops really didn't make any callouts or announcements after they breached the door, they should be the ones facing charges. Even if they did, what an awful situation to be in as someone on the receiving end of a no knock in the wrong place. You have seconds to decide whether the real police just kicked in your door, or if it's just a couple guys yelling police. It really is ridiculous. It blows my mind talking to people about this case. Under any scrutiny, the pro criminal argument quickly devolves into, "well, he was black, and white guys were chasing him!" Guns were not pointed at him prior to his attack. The father's gun can be seen holstered the entire time. For some reason everyone who defends the criminal seems to need to make things up to bolster their argument.
What responsibility do you think the man had in his own death? A career criminal who repeatedly victimized this neighborhood. Citizens follow him, get on the phone with the police, attempt to tell him to stop. They aren't touching him. They aren't pointing guns at him. They are pursuing him and won't let up. He wasn't an innocent man in fear for his life. He was a criminal that felt trapped. The choice he made to escape was to charge directly at one of his pursuers and attack him, possibly while armed with a hammer. I don't feel sorry for him, I don't believe that race is relevant to any of these facts, and I think it's a tragedy that so many people are so easily misled by a couple media headlines.
The claim is that cops don't have enough training or the hiring standards aren't high enough or whatever. Then they advocate for cops to be replaced by random guys on the street. In professional settings they want cops replaced by security guards. Basically doing away with all standards will reduce police brutality? Which still hasn't even been shown to be a legitimate issue?
