There are a lot of different beliefs and dogmas within Christianity, and not all of them are in agreement with each other. I for one am not convinced that hell exists. My sources for anything I say are bits and pieces I've gathered from varying denominations of the church, from my bible, and from what understanding I can come to from experiences in my life.
Abraham, considered a righteous man by all 3 of the world's largest religions, never had a book or a source that he could point others to. There was no scripture in his day except the understanding that God could bring him to through experiences and happenings in his time. I believe he spent decades before even seeing the first inklings of the promise God made to him come to fruition.
