I first heard about it when I lived in Houston more than 10 years ago. I would personally be fine with a federal holiday marking the end of slavery and the civil war. Those are good things to celebrate. As long as all Juneteenth speeches start, "Today we commemorate the Republicans freeing slaves from the Democrats."
