In the US and UK, scientists expressed concerns that once they develop a vaccine there may not be enough COVID left around to effectively test it.
like most normal American's I grew up in a time where you could disagree with someone but still be able to be friends
Exactly.
I remember when Newt and Ted K. would say the most vile things about each other in congress, but the two would still go out for drinks after work.
My Mother was R, my dad was a D.. Typically politics was avoided as a subject of conversation.
The only advice I can offer is the next time she goes "off the wall" about it say "Look, when we got married we knew each other's political leanings, and we still got married because we loved each other. I can accept you don't believe the things I believe, and it's not a big deal to me. BUT you're now freaking out because you cannot accept that I don't believe what you believe..... what changed? WHY? and WHO is in the wrong?"
There are a few similar articles too.. which kind of counter what we thought we knew about how this spreads. If (and it's a big if) an asymptomatic carrier can't infect others, the thought occurs to me the solution to this whole mess might be having everyone take their temperature every morning. If it's normal, and you feel normal, you're free to go to work that day. If not stay home.
It's only a few cases though, but if it holds true..
Part of the article I translated -
Once the main mechanism of action of the virus has been revealed, many other things can be understood. For example, the central mechanism of action of hydroxychloroquine can now be explained and fully understood, and its effectiveness in countering Covid19. What this mechanism consists of is immediately said: the drug by binding permanently with ferriprotoporphyrin (of the Eme group of Hb) removes the substrate from viral proteins and also becomes an important means of prophylaxis. Although there are still no Italian publications on the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine as a "shield" from the virus, among the directors of the infectious disease wards, the specialists, Primaries and general practitioners contacted during this research, many admitted - under a whisper - to use the drug as a "prophylaxis", that is, to prevent infection. Healthcare professionals who are in close contact with contagious patients take the drug in advance, precisely to decrease the probability of contracting the infection. For now, in support of this "prophylaxis" effect, there is a recent publication, involving 211 people. It was published in the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents, the official body of the International Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy. Of 211 people exposed to Covid positive 19 and undergoing prophylaxis with hydroxychloroquine, none were infected.
Finally, further confirmation of this hypothesis is the data collected in the register of the SIR (Italian rheumatology society). To assess the possible correlations between chronic patients and Covid19, SIR interrogated 1,200 rheumatologists throughout Italy to collect statistics on infections. Out of an audience of 65,000 chronic patients (Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis), who systematically take Plaquenil / hydroxychloroquine, only 20 patients tested positive for the virus. Nobody died, nobody is in intensive care, according to the data collected so far.
I recall a study in Italy for anti-bodies the found a sizable percentage of people had been infected, most without knowing. I'd like to find it again, I think it was around 20%
20 of 65,000 would be .0003% (apx)
Correct. And if you didn't know, the story Quint tells of the USS Indianapolis in which he describes a sharks eyes, is in fact, a true story.
I'm not seeing any spikes.. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/
And note the deaths (or lack of) in states using hydroxycloriquine
