I heard Bret Easton Ellis say to Eric Weinstein on a podcast, “people don’t hate Trump’s policies, they hate his aesthetics.” Ninety percent of the conflict with Trump is rooted in aesthetics. For the entrenched interests who want perpetual war, sellout to China, globalism, etc. it absolutely is about policy, but the joe schmoe in the street is experiencing a visceral reaction to the aesthetics that is not trivial.
The aesthetics of a gaudy 80’s golden manhattan penthouse vs an artfully minimalist contemporary interior with ironic pop art on the walls and eco conscious furnishings out of Dwell magazine. A Las Vegas showboating libidunous salesman vs a soft spoken, witty, Ivy league credentialed intellectual. It all points to an existential divergence in worldviews and values.
I think there’s a disproportionate reaction from the left vs right because people on the right and middle have largely not allowed their deeply rooted inherited values to catabolize, so they can take Trump on the merits of his policy. At least more so than leftists, who cannot at all. Leftists have largely become consumerist shells, who after disembowelling themselves of all cultural and metaphysical heritage, now have just the thin mask of whatever adopted aesthetics to generate a zeal for life and meaning. This is why they’re so triggered. It’s all they have.
