I think you're missing the point. You don't pull the gun out in a situation where there's enough time for them to even realize you have the gun and try to get away. When you pull the gun out you genuinely feel your life is in danger, and you pull the gun out and shoot. You do it fast and without hesitation. If the gun is out and they've had enough time to realize what is going on and run away you've already lost the legal battle. You will lose in court if you pull the gun out for the sake of getting them to run away.
That lady in the video last week, court is not going to treat her well. She would have been fine if she pulled the gun out and shot. Still would have gone to court, but it would have been an easy win.

If you pull the gun out and don't use it you basically prove that you truly didn't feel your life was in danger or else you would have been in fight or flight mode and shot. That's how the law will see it at least. In a perfect world I agree, you should be able to pull a gun on somebody acting violent as a form of deescalation, but I also understand why it's not allowed.
