To your first point, are samples random? Symptomatic but showed up to doctor? What’s the story on how the data is collected?
Death rate is #deaths / #cases except we DON’T KNOW HOW MANY CASES THERE ARE. And that’s not a failing, we simply can’t test everyone. But just like political polling, we can take a random sample with statistical significance and infer.
And so until that’s done, we don’t know. And if there are so many asymptomatic clinical presentations, it’s reasonable to assume there are many, many cases
